High school football more than a game
There are many reasons why I play the rough sport of high school football.
The camaraderie of the game is the biggest part of it. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love football itself. I love the game for the big hits, the constant pressure to do your best, and the fact that you will never be too prepared to play. But the camaraderie is really the best thing.
Football isn’t a sport of just talent. Yes, talent goes a long way, but hard work, sacrifice, responsibility and accountability are much more powerful. I love the constant hard work needed to succeed not only in this game of life but in the game of football.
Without the game of football, I don’t know where I would be. The game has shaped me into the person I am and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Football gives us a sense of belonging, and it teaches us that there is more to the sport than just hitting each other. It teaches us that if you don’t do your job, everything that can go wrong, might go wrong.
It teaches us that there is a time and place to be rough and violent, and a time and place to be kindhearted, strong-willed young men.
Football is a game of not only physical ability but mental toughness. If you are not mentally strong, there will be no success on the field.
Everything we do in the game of football is a head game. If you are not willing to prepare, or work hard, nothing will work out.
Football is not only a game for a bunch of brutes, it is a game for us to come together — and a game that teaches boys how to be men.
