8 Times Women Killed It in Raf Simons’s Menswear
To find a designer who slips as easily between men’s and womenswear as Raf Simons is a tall order indeed. We know him best for his directional tenure at Dior, and Jil Sander before that, but perhaps more noteworthy is the enormous cachet his menswear brand, launched back in 1995, has with those sans the Y chromosome. More specifically: the slew of cool girls who have embraced Raf Simons’s pieces in their day-to-day. Among their ranks? Rihanna, who most recently was spotted in one of Simons’s scrawled-upon lab coats, and Rita Ora, who donned a collaged graphics sweatshirt from the designer’s Spring ’15 runway. The catwalk set are staunch supporters, too—naturally. Hanne Gaby Odiele, a favorite of Simons’s, has been lensed countless times in a trench from his intensely collectible Fall 2014 collaboration with Sterling Ruby (Odiele also walked his menswear runway for Fall ’15).
In the wake of Simons’s official appointment at Calvin Klein, we’re looking back at 8 of the best borrowed-from-the-boys menswear looks his label has inspired; hopefully we can expect a little of their androgynous charm coming to the Calvin runway soon.
